The battle between the New England Patriots & Atlanta Falcons is not the only thing to look forward to in this Sunday's Super Bowl LI. Advertisers paid a record breaking $5.5 million for each 30-second commercial spot. Also, the halftime show with Lady Gaga is a highly anticipated event, as is the first-ever live Super Bowl commercial by Snickers, starring Adam Driver (of Star Wars: The Force Awakens). 

NBC set the sales rate for a 30-second advertisement at US $5.5 million, a price $500,000 above the record set by the two preceding Super Bowls. NBC began selling advertising for the game in May 2016; as of January 2017, the game's advertising had not yet completely sold out, with approximately 5% of the advertising slots still up for sale. A large number of automotive advertisers have reduced their advertising during the game, and several recurring advertisers from recent years have opted out this year, including Toyota, Doritos, Butterfinger and Visa.
